Thirty-three slices, to be precise:

the family next door; things that taste nice;

a wall that you might want to slap;

losing a tooth that leaves a gap.

Peanut butter and jam, of course,

and outdoor games including HORSE.

Lots more wait inside for you.

Grab a chair and read right through!

Amy Houchen fondly remembers hearing and reading many poems as a child, particularly those by Robert Louis Stevenson, Lewis Carroll, AA Milne, Robert Frost, and Dr. Seuss. It seemed only natural to put some of her childhood experiences and imaginings, and those of her children and grandchildren, into verse. She has written poems for adults, as well as articles and a book about gardens and gardening. She lives in Portland, Oregon. She is available for readings and workshops: amyhouchen@amyhouchen.com
